On Tuesday, December 12 at 9:00 we will be visiting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as part of the Social Studies curriculum. A note will go out at a later date explaining more. Report cards went out, and we are very impressed with the progress that the students have made since September. If you have any questions or concerns please come see us. During the second term concepts get harder, and expectations increase. Keep working hard!! Just a reminder that reading logs are due at the beginning of the month. The book talks for December will be on Wednesday, December 6th for 3P and Thursday, December 7th for 3B. There will be NO BOOK TALKS for the month of January. The main purpose of the book talk is to improve skills of speaking in front of others. We are looking for eye contact, expression and body movement. We have been working on improving fluency, accuracy and expression in reading. In writing we have been examining attention grabbing beginnings, adding details and extending endings. We are becoming awesome authors!! In math we are continuing to work on addition of 2 and 3-digit numbers. Continue to work on basic addition facts at home. We are seeing improvement in these timed facts at school!! Soon we will be focusing on basic subtraction facts.

Our class will be skating on Tuesday, December 19 and Thursday, December 21 from Students require skates and a CSA approved helmet. (There are skates and helmets at the rink, however we cannot guarantee there will be the right size for your child.) This year’s concert is on Wednesday, December 13th at 5:30 for student’s whose last names beginning with A-L. Those student’s last names beginning with M-Z will be on Thursday, December 14th at 5:30. When students return in January we will be starting our Rocks and Minerals unit. As part of this unit, we will be making crystals and are asking each student to bring in a glass jar (pickle, ragu). Please do not bring the jar in until January. Hearing and Sound is the unit we have been working on in science. We have been discovering how sound is produced, and investigating ways to make and control sound. During Social we have been focusing on the various celebrations in India, Ukraine, Tunisia and Peru. We are planning a traditional luncheon on Wednesday, December 20. Each student will have the opportunity to share their favorite traditional dish. A note will go home at a later date explaining this in more detail.
