What is B.Y.O.T.? Bring Your Own Technology Purpose? embraces the importance of technology in the educational lives of students.

Purpose? -enables instant access to a wealth of information, references and collaborative resources on the web. -These resources can support the learning activities that are a part of daily classroom instruction.

Purpose? connects students with a global audience, and connects students to those with whom they can collaborate.

Will all schools participate in BYOT
Will all schools participate in BYOT? -Phase One (beginning March/April 2015) -Phase Two will start at the beginning of the school year

What would be an appropriate Device?
privately owned electronic "Internet-ready" device (including, but not limited to, laptops, netbooks, tablets, cell phones, and e-readers with screens that are 7 inches or larger)

What happens if a student cannot bring a personal mobile device?
Students will be able to use division-owned technology in lieu of personal devices as needed.

WHen will personally owned devices be used?
Individual teachers would determine use of devices. Differences would exist among teachers regarding the extent to which the use of personal devices is encouraged/permitted. If a student is asked not to use his/her device in class, the student will follow those instructions.

Utilizing educational tools like Dreambox, Interactive Achievement, Socrative, or Google Docs. Conducting research to enhance student understanding Educational games/apps

What training/information will be provided for teachers and students?
Countryside Elementary is was digitially certified school through Common Sense Media in and will be so again before December 2016 for the school year. Teachers will provide expectations to students on acceptable and appropriate use of the devices for learning.

How will safety and security of the devices be provided?
Students are ultimately responsible for the security of his/her personal device. No portable device should ever be left unattended! When not in use, the device should be with the student or in a secured location. Unattended devices will be turned in to the school administration. LCPS is not responsible for loss, damage or theft of any personal electronic device. Any loss, theft or damage is the responsibility of the student and parent/guardian.

What Internet security will be provided?
The Loudoun County School Division will take precautions to restrict access to undesirable or inappropriate materials using firewalls and filtering applications on LCPS wireless networks. All division teachers and staff will monitor user activity in schools and will pursue appropriate disciplinary actions as appropriate for any violations.

Other Information: No division IT or instructional staff will provide technical support or troubleshooting for personal devices. All rules and regulations set forth in School Board policy, the AUP, BYOT Parent/Student Agreement, Student Handbook and Code of Conduct and applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations will be enforced and govern the BYOT Initiative.

Students must have a LCPS Acceptable Use Policy form (AUP) signed by both student and parent/guardian in order to participate in BYOT. By signing the form, students agree to follow the policy, including the following items, when using their personal devices: device must be connect to the school’s wireless when on line (not a family’s cellular connection 3G or 4G use use the device exclusively for academic purposes camera use only when directed by teacher/with the permission of those being filmed texting and use of phone is not permitted devices may not be plugged in to any LCPS computer LCPS/Countryside assumes no responsibility for theft, loss, or damage of any device students may not share personally identifying information on line (student number, full name, address, phone number

The devices are for academic use only- NO calling, texting, or ing. If the technology has calling or texting capabilities, it must be on silent at all times. Students are responsible for their own device! All devices must go through the LCPS wireless network. This allows for the internet access to be filtered at the district level. Students may only use their device when the teacher has given them permission to do so. Students will not be able to use devices at recess or lunch. No video recording, taking pictures, or audio recording unless directed by the teacher. Devices must remain visible at all times. Students may only use their own device- NO sharing.
