2 Things we need in order to live are called “basic needs.”

3 Basic Needs include:

4 A balanced meal... A balanced meal contains food from the four food groups: ~carbohydrates ~proteins ~fats ~vitamins and minerals

5 Proteins, Carbohydrates, Fats and Viatmins and Minerals make up four food groups.

6 Vitamins and minerals

7 Carbohydrates give us energy.
Found in peas, bread, beans, rice.

8 When we do not get enough carbohyrdrates:
Fats provide extra energy.

9 To purify something To purify something means to make it clean or pure.

10 Our food... Our food gives us the nutrients that we need.

11 Proteins Proteins help our bodies to grow and to replace skin and other cells which are damaged.

12 Toxic Substances... Poison us.

13 To pollute means To pollute means to make something dirty.

14 Air! Air contains many gases. One of them is OXYGEN, which
we breathe in order to live.

15 Sleep According to our textbook, you need about nine hours of sleep
per night to be healthy.

16 Shelter Everyone has a basic need of shelter. The place where you live meets this need.

17 Goods The things we cannot make our- selves and we need
money to pay for them.

18 Services Bus drivers provide a service for us. They keep
us safe while we get to places.

19 Wants We need some things to survive, like healthy food, shelter, air and clean water. We want lots of other things, like candy, toys and video games. These are called “wants.”

20 Barometer A thermometer measures the temperature. A barometer
measures atmospheric pressure.

21 Plants and carbon dioxide
Plants take in carbon dioxide through their leaves and “breathe out” oxygen :)

22 Fossil Fuels Oil, coal and gas are fossil fuels. They were formed from the remains of dead organisms: plants and animals. Fossil fuels are non-renewable.

23 Cayman and rain In 2006, Cayman received the most amount of rain in June. Cayman received the least amount of rain in February.

24 Water Cycle Evaporation: When sunshine heats water,
some of it evaporates. When the water is cool enough, it condenses into drops of water which forms clouds.
