2. Purpose of DLI Expansion
Digital Learning Initiative approved by Board of Education - May 2015
Continued expansion in 58 elementary classrooms
During the school year:
Grade K-1 students will use Apple iPads at a 2:1 ratio
Grade 2 students will either use Apple iPads at a 2:1 ratio or Chromebooks at a 1:1 ratio
Allows the District to study the benefits of an Apple ecosystem and iPad device and the benefits offered by the Google ecosystem and Chromebook device
Grades 3-5 will be 1:1 with Chromebooks and the Google ecosystem
Build capacity of instructional staff

3. Timeline Date Activity August
Device delivery to buildings & student Google accounts activated
Begin August 24
Parent Communication Meetings
Review responsibility for the device and discuss policy for signature
Prior to Deployment
Student/Parent Authorization for Use of Electronic Devices and Network signed (for students in Grades 3-5)
3-5 students - when forms is received with parent signature, device can be sent home
GAFE Permissions K-8 Form signed
All K-8 students must have this signed by parents and returned to school

Students learn about digital citizenship and device care through classroom instruction

Students in Grades 3-5 will receive a Chromebook with charger and case
After signed parent forms are received
K-2 students will be using either iPads or Chromebooks in the classroom only; devices will not go home with students

5. Expectations
For devices in Grades 3-5, student should bring to school every day, fully charged.
Students should use device for school related purposes only.
Students should model good digital citizenship.
Students work within District provided filtering and applications.
