2. John Smith and Gainsborough Separatist
In 1602 John Smith gathered separatist at Gainsborough (see English Puritan).
In 1606 he immigrated to Amsterdam with his church members and established themselves as second English church in Amsterdam

3. John Smith with Anabaptist Idea
Early in 1609 Smith believed that infant batism is not based on the Bible. Perhaps, this belief was influenced by Mennonites.
Smith was expelled by the church under the leadership of Thomas Helwys and John Murton (see English puritans) because Smith believed in the Socinian’s teaching.

4. The first Baptist Church in England
In 1611 and 1612 Helwys, Murton and their followers went back to England with a purpose to proclaim the truth that they have received in Holland. From this time the church was established in England land.

5. Baptist Church in America

6. Roger Williams
Roger Williams who came to America in 1631 was baptized by a layman in 1639considered as “the constitutor of the first Baptist Church in America second in the British dominions.”

7. John Clarke
Henry Clarke, A History of the Sabbatarians or Seventh Day Baptists, in America Concerning their Rise and Progress to the Year 1811, with their Leaders’ names and their Distinguishing Tenets, & c (np: Seward and Wiliams, 1811), 7-8.
However, it seems that John Clarke was the first pastor and leader of the first Baptist Church in America. He, perhaps, baptized and ordained by Roger Williams.
The first Baptist Church in America was established under the leadership of john Clarke about 1644.

8. Seventh-day Baptist in England
Theophilus Braborne, lived in England, in the 17th century proclaimed based on the Bible that the fourth commandment should be kept. He was put in jail but still faithful to Anglican Church.

9. John Traske
In 1617 John Traske claimed that the seventh day is the true Sabbath. However, he recanted even preached against it. His wife was still in her belief that Saturday is the true Sabbath. She was put for 25 years in jail for her belief.

10. Henri Jesse
Henri Jesse, a pastor in London, believed in adult baptism and the seventh day Sabbath. Nevertheless he still preached on Sunday.

11. First SDB in England
The first SDB in England was Mill Yard Church in London where it was established in 1650.

12. First SDB in America
The first SDB in America was organized in December 1671, in Newport, Rhode Island. Stephen and Ann Mumford were one of the first members.
The establishment of the first SDB in America should be much credited to Samuel and Tacy Hubbard.

13. Samuel and Tacy Hubbard
They married in In 1648 this couple joined the Baptist Church and baptized by John Clarke. Then they became the leaders of the second Baptist Church in America.
However, in 1665 they were mostly from studying Bible that the seventh day is Sabbath. Tacy accepted it but Samuel together with their daughters Ruth, Rachel and Bethaniah, Joseph Clark (son in law of the Hubbards and nephew of John Clarke) later on joined this new belief.

14. From Baptist to Seventh Day Baptist
In December 1671 the five persons withdrew from Baptist Church. Then in Dec 23, 1671 they organized themselves into a covenant. The first members of this new group were Samuel and Tacy Hubbard, Rachel Longworthy (their daughter), Roger Baster; William Hiscox (who was taking role as pastor), and Stephen Mumford with his wife.

15. Other Group of SDB

The other daughters of the Hubbards, Ruth and Bethaniah together with their husbands moved to Rhode Island and became the leaders of the pioneering work of SDB in this place. From this place the work spread to many other areas in the United States.
