Greater than and Less than crocodiles….
2
Our Learning Intention: We are learning how to write “greater than” and “less than” using symbols instead of words. Our success criteria: I know what each symbol means. I know which symbol means greater than and which one means less than.
3
Instead of writing a whole sentence:
24 is less than 72 We can make things easier by using a symbol instead of the words! 24 < 72
4
Which is which? < >
5
The greedy crocodile always eats the bigger number…
> 12 is greater than
6
…and the point inside the crocodiles mouth always points to the smaller number like an arrow.
56 < 72 is less than
7
For example… 23 is greater than 10 so we would write it like this:
23 > 10 67 is less than 93 so we would write it like this: 67 < 93
8
less than < greater than >
So remember…. The greedy crocodile always eats the greater (bigger) number…. less than < greater than > And the point of the crocodiles mouth points to the smaller number like an arrow.
9
Greater or less than? 24 and 89
10
24 is less than 89 24 < 89
11
Greater or less than? 107 and 13
12
107 is greater than 13 107 > 13
