Yr12 & 13 Learning Walk October 2015

Key observations Groups were very engaged and there is a highly productive and positive relationship between staff and students. Evidence of ‘React’ could be clearly seen, even at this early stage in the year. Examples and explanations are provided to give confidence and core content before students work in groups or individually.

Examples of good practice
In A2 psychology, a specific part of the A2 content is being repeated or refreshed at the start of every lesson as this was the lower scoring aspect in last exams. Specific help sheets and support are offered to students to help them with focussed note taking or theory (eg PE and English). In maths, there was evidence of exam style questions being set and completed with specific use of key terminology highlighted to the students. In computer science, work blogs have been created to help students map and monitor their progress.

Suggested actions Consider the use of similar starter and engagement tasks with sixth form as used with lower years. Continue to evolve note-taking and essay scaffolding sheets. 6th form team to keep working on strategies to help the few ‘focus’ students who are still struggling either due to work ethic, disorganisation or absence rate. Share blogs and online groups with all students to allow questions to be asked ahead of lessons. Use exam focused feedback (particularly in the new linear specifications).
