From Key Stage one to Key Stage two……What changes?
Curriculum: In KS2 we continue to study….maths, English, history, geography, computing, art and design, music, design technology and PE. A language is added and at Cawood we teach French. As the curriculum widens and deepens the strain on timetable means every second counts!

Routines: Children need to become more independent as they progress through the school. Please encourage them to come into class on their own. They need to be responsible for their own routines. Hang up coat/bag Put water bottle on table Put reading book and home record book in tray

Home record book Acts as both a diary and a reading record book. Please add comments when you listen to your child read. Encourage them to record the book they are reading. Encourage them to add comments. Spelling tests are recorded here so you can see how they do each week. Please sign each week.

Homework Reading, reading, reading! Don’t forget it is important to keep reading to your child that way they access rich vocabulary. Spellings Will be brought home each Monday with a sheet to fill out each day. Test the following Monday. X Tables Key facts such as multiplication tables are really important. Little and often is best. (IXL) Maths and Literacy homework. Usually using IXL but occasionally extra sheets to support what we’ve done in school. The timetable is very busy in school. They need time to relax and play!

Maths Organised slightly different this year. Singapore maths for Y3 and Y4 : Maths No Problem! Taught in single year groups by teacher and supported by trained TA. Smaller groups, single year groups. Based on research from Singapore maths…. concrete…..pictorial…….abstract
