Theory, Simulation, and Implementation of Grid Connected Back to Back Converters Utilizing Voltage Oriented Control Presenter: Sean Cunningham
2
Overview Goal: connect two power systems for the exchange of power
Project installation resides at UW-Milwaukee’s USR building Indirect AC/AC Conversion for decoupling the two power systems Controlling the amplitude and phase angle System dynamic model and Voltage Oriented Control
3
Controller Design From the system dynamic models transfer functions were developed for the current and voltage controllers as well as the phase-locked loop Optimization method Symmetrical Optimum for tuning of voltage controller and phase-locked loop Optimization method Modulus Optimum used for tuning of the current controller
4
Project Implementation
Harmonic current allowance at Point of Common Coupling from IEEE standard Inductance of the reactor by selecting range of current Maximum DC bus voltage Converter harmonic voltage spectrum Minimum required converter switching frequency
5
Software Implementation and Testing
Software implementation and testing originated in MathWorks Simulink environment Code generation for Texas Instruments C2000 Series Digital Signal Processor Only core Simulink blocks were used in the development of code for possibly deploying to other DSPs
6
Analytical vs. Simulation Harmonics
7
Measured Harmonics Converter harmonic voltage spectrum consistent across analytical, simulation, and measured results Measured harmonic currents slightly higher than analytical and simulation results
