4 What is Red Ribbon Week all about?
Red Ribbon Week is all about keeping people away from drugs People need to know that drugs, alcohol, and tobacco hurt their bodies. Kids need to know that they don’t ever have to use drugs.

5 Why do we celebrate? EFES students are very special.
You need to know how to grow up to be healthy and drug-free. You need to know how to stay away from drugs.

6 How did Red Ribbon Week Start?
Enrique Camarena Mr. Camarena was a police officer who worked to keep drugs out of the U.S. In 1985 he was killed by drug dealers. Mr. Camarena’s family and friends began to wear red ribbons to show how proud they were of him and show that they didn’t like what drugs did to people and their community. The first Red Ribbon Week was in That’s 24 years ago!

9 Review Tobacco contains:
Nicotine: Nicotine is a chemical that makes your brain think it needs more and more tobacco. Tar: Tar is a black sticky substance made up of thousands of chemicals in tobacco smoke, AND tar causes cancer.

10 Tobacco Review Tobacco is dangerous for kids because:
Kids are easily addicted. Kids don’t think it will hurt them. Kids want to be like family or friends that smoke Very few adults become smokers because they understand how dangerous it is.

11 Remember: Cigarette smoke makes your clothes and hair stink!
Tobacco gives you bad breath! Tobacco turns your teeth yellow! Tobacco causes cancer, emphysema, and heart disease. Tobacco kills thousands of people every day!

13 Review Alcohol: Alcohol slows down your brain and body.
Alcohol is addictive. Alcohol (and tobacco) is illegal for kids.

15 Review Illegal Drugs: Marijuana and other illegal drugs are so harmful that they are illegal for adults and kids. People can go to jail for selling and using illegal drugs.

17 Review Medicine: Only from your parents or a doctor.
Only your own medicine. The wrong kind of medicine or too much medicine can hurt you.

18 How can you stay away from alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs?
Just say NO. Choose good friends. Stay away from places where drugs are used.

19 How do I say “No”? Say “No” politely and firmly.
Be ready to give a good reason for saying no. Walk away.
