Jewelry making Day 19 Tribal bracelets
3
Agenda Go over review of last time.
Notes on how to do a chevron pattern bracelet. As a group put together the first 3 rows of knots on our chevron bracelet. Finish the bracelet if you are done with everything else.
4
Last time Last time in class we learned about tribal bracelets.
We each practiced doing the diagonal or candy stripe pattern in a bracelet. If you were not here last time you will want to go to the classroom website to see the tutorial and get the notes on how to do a diagonal pattern bracelet.
5
Supplies At least 4 pieces of 72 inches each of different colored cotton embroidery thread. A clip board, safety pin, or tape to keep your strings in place.
6
Step 1 Make sure the strings are even and fold them in half.
Tying them into a knot leaving a loop at the top Secure your loop so it does not move. Note: there are other nicer ways to start your bracelets but we will cover those later.
7
Step 2 Arrange the threads as shown in the image above where you have the colors in order of 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1. It should be the same color on the outside moving in.
8
Step 3 Starting from the far left side make a row of left knots stopping in the middle of the bracelet when the colors start repeating. For instance in the four color example above you would tie 3 left knots.
9
Making a Right knot To make a right knot you will be making a “P” shape on the right side. You will tuck under the string to create a loop that you will bring up to the top. Just like with the left knot you will make two loops for each right knot.
10
Step 4 Moving to the far right side now, tie a row of right knots to the middle. When you get to the middle of the bracelet you will meet up with the thread from step 3. Tie this with a right knot as well. Note: You will always be tying one more knot when working from the right to left. For example in this image you will be tying 4 right knots.
11
Demonstration Follow along with Mrs. Francesconi to complete the chevron bracelet pattern.
12
Studio Time Finish at least 5 rows of the chevron pattern to show you understand the pattern. Once done if you need to finish your pendant, earrings, or wire project get those done first. If you are done with everything keep going with the chevron pattern and finish the bracelet.
