Jewelry making Day 20 Tribal bracelets
3
Agenda Go over review of last time.
Notes on how to do a grid pattern bracelet. As a group put together the one letter in the pattern bracelet. Finish the bracelet if you are done with everything else.
4
Last time Last time in class we learned about tribal bracelets.
We each practiced doing the Chevron pattern in a bracelet. If you were not here last time you will want to go to the classroom website to see the tutorial and get the notes on how to do a diagonal pattern bracelet.
5
Supplies 1 pieces of 144 inches each colored cotton embroidery thread.
At least four 72 inch pieces of the same color cotton embroidery thread. A cardstock bobbin A clip board, safety pin, or tape to keep your strings in place.
6
Step 1 Cut a piece of cardboard to help separate your colors and strings. This is also helpful with other bracelets. Fold your 4 strings of the same color in half. Keep your long string straight Put them together and knot at the top
7
Step 2 Arrange the threads as shown to the side.
Your long string should be on the left and the rest of your strings should be separated to the right of that string.
8
Step 3 Starting from the far left side make a row of left knots with your outside color (the long string) going from left to right. Than using the same long color string make a row of right knots leading from right to left. Repeat this until you are ready to start your letters.
9
Step 4 Draw out your pattern of letters, shapes or designs into the grid paper indicating how many strings you are working with. For example we have 4 folded in half so that makes 8. Label them if they are a left or a right row going down the side. This will help you keep track of what knot to do next.
10
Step 5 Moving from left to right if your color is on the left or from right to left if your color is on the right you will make as many left or right knots as your grid indicates. When you get to a color change you will pick up that string and do the opposite (a right knot if your were doing left knots or a left knot if you were doing right knots). Once the grid indicates the colors change back, use your long string again to continue with the knot for that row. Note: You will only do one knot per different color string making sure to keep your long string tight and at an angle that allows the knot to match up with the line above.
11
Step 6 Continue following the grid until you finish your lettering.
Than you will go back and forth extend the background color until your bracelet is long enough.
12
Demonstration Follow along with Mrs. Francesconi to complete the grid pattern bracelet.
13
Studio Time Finish at least 1 letter of the grid pattern to show you understand the pattern. Once done if you need to finish your pendant, earrings, or wire project get those done first. If you are done with everything keep going with the grid pattern and finish the bracelet.
