Baptized as Norma Jean Baker Never knew her father Although she once thought Clark Gable was her father However, there is no evidence that Gable ever met or even knew her mother

4 Growing up Marilyn Gladys was her mother
Marilyn said one of her earliest memories was of her grandmother trying to smother her in her crib with a pillow Both her grandmother and mother had psychiatric problems At age 9, her mother was placed in a mental institution. Spent most her time in foster care and in orphanages.

Claims she was sexually assaulted on several occasions Claims she was raped at age 11 Her way out? Get married! At age 16, she married Jimmy Dougherty She had also dropped out of high school at age 15

6 First marriage to Jimmy
He was a Merchant Marine and was sent to the South Pacific. Marilyn went to work in a factory(where they made materials for the war). At this job, she was “discovered” by a photographer. Jimmy returns4 years later and finds Marilyn was a successful model. They will divorce in 1946.

8 Also in 1946 She changes her name to Marilyn Monroe, dyes her hair blonde, and gets her first acting gig. Soon, she would become one of Hollywood’s most famous actresses and sex symbols.
