Objectives: Understand the importance of games in the section meeting.
Understand the need for different types of games and when to play them Be able to explain and run different types of games Be able to select games that suit the sections programme. It’s always good to start with objectives so we know what we are going to be doing for the session. Talk through the objectives and remember to revisit them at the end to see if we have achieved LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

Give it a Go! In groups use the materials available to create as many games as possible within 5 minutes. Get the young leaders to create as many games as they can think of using items such as balls, pens, paper, box of creative art material one base should have no materials. Rotate the groups around the bases so they have an option to visit every base. After this get one group to run one of the games they have created. LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

Types of Games In your groups, sort all the games you created into different types. These can be: Team games Individual games Meeting ending games Skills games Outdoor games This is just a selection of the types of games that can be used. There are many more categories within the Prepare to lead book. LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

Types of Games Now categories the types just into 5 or 6 generic categories, they can include: Ball games Elimination Quiet Team Working Skills Based As the young leaders to run of their games. One from each group. After each game have an open discussion about what they thought of the particular type of game. Ge the young leaders to think about some of the following points: Advantages disadvantages When is it most appropriate to play the game in the section? How will the young people feel through the game? Would they get eliminated early? Would they get bored? Would the game be appropriate for every section? If not how could the game be adapted? LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

Lets talk… What would you need to prepare and make sure games are run successfully? Their answers and suggestions should include : Having the correct equipment Explaining the rules clearly and simply Maintaining discipline and sporting behaviour during the game Timekeeping Safety (equipment and environment) Supervision LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE
