3. Cardiff and Vale Integrated Autism Service
Combines two existing services –
Cardiff and Vale Autism Spectrum Service (CAVASS) delivering diagnosis
Adult Autism Advice supporting adults
Plus appointment of new staff.

6. What will we be doing ?
The role of the team is to provide both individual and group support where service gaps exist.
To work closely with partnership organisations across the care pathway to enable them to support people with autism.

7. Direct Work
Diagnostic assessments of autism for adults without a learning disability
Support to parents and carers of children and adults with an autism diagnosis
Individual and group interventions for adults who would not otherwise be able to access mainstream services.

8. Indirect Work
Autism training to individuals working with people with autism, both general and more specialised.
Consultation, advice and support to professionals working with people with autism.
Joint working with other services where this will best meet the needs of the client.

9. Referrals The IAS will act as a single point of access for referrals.
With a diagnosis: self-referral, parents-carers professionals. Evidence of a diagnosis may be requested.
We accept referrals from all professionals for diagnosis.

10. Current work Adult Diagnosis.
Short-term, targeted, individual and group interventions to promote the independence and autonomy of adults with autism
6 week post diagnostic group
Two monthly adult forums
Couple support group

11. Current work 10 week social skills course
Consultation and advice to professionals
Joint working of complex cases, including assessments and interventions, with other services

12. Future Plans Groups and workshops for parents and carers.
Training for professionals.
A ‘Skills for Life’ group.
Groups to develop understanding
and managing emotions for adults
The service will develop over time based on gaps in services.

13. What won’t we do ? Under 18 Diagnosis. Urgent/emergency care.
Prescribing medication.
Fund commissioned services.
Long term therapy or care management
Respite for carers

14. In conclusion
We have a wide remit working across both child and adult services in health, and social care.
We want to ensure that we meet identified need as opposed to developing services that already exist.
We are thinking carefully about our pathways and processes to avoid future confusion.
