When setting up the saw, check to see that The blade is securely fastened to the arbor. The saw blade revolves freely in the correct direction. Any clamps or knobs on the fences are properly tightened. In this photo, a wrench is being used to fasten the blade.

Have your instructor check all special setups and blade changes before the saw is started.

When changing saw blades or using a dado head, make sure the main switch is off. When possible, pull the plug from the receptacle to prevent accidental starting.

Raise the saw blade from ⅛ to ¼ inch higher than the thickness of the stock to be cut.

Make sure that the antikickback pawls (fingers) behind the saw blade are always in place. Antikickback Pawl (In Red for Visibility)

These resist the tendency of the saw to throw the stock backward and toward the operator. Antikickback Pawl (In Red for Visibility)

10 Preparing to Use a Table Saw
Always use the saw guard. Never operate the saw without the guard in place unless a special jig or fixture is used as a guard.
