2 Pre & POST 9/11 MEDIA Before we can begin to think about ‘Post 9/11 Media’, we need to establish what the media looked like prior to the events of September 11th, 2001. Pre-9/11 Media often reflected issues of mistrust in relation to the government and figures of authority (X-Files, A Few Good Men) Portrayed a clear sense of freedom, carefree engagement in society and the placing of great value on friendships (Friends) The traditional family unit was more fractured and a greater emphasis on being career driven was also notable amongst various media texts (Wall Street) However, these attitudes and ideologies in the media noticeably shifted in the wake of the terror attacks in NYC on September 11th 2001.
