2 Perimeter and Area

3 Who can recall formulas of perimeter and area.
M. 4c Develop, compare, and use formulas to estimate and calculate the perimeter and area of rectangles, triangles, and parallelograms. (DOK 2) Who can recall formulas of perimeter and area. On perimeter you will add all the sides of the polygon or you can use the formulas: square 4s; rectangle 2l+2w or 2(l+w). On area the square is A=side squared; rectangle A=l x w; triangle ½ b x h; parallelogram b x h.

4 1) The dimensions of junior high basketball courts are 74’ by 42’
1) The dimensions of junior high basketball courts are 74’ by 42’. Calculate the area of a junior high basketball court like the one shown below. It may help you to label the dimensions on the diagram.

5 2) The dimensions of the pools for the 2004 Olympic competitions in Greece are 50m x 25m for the outdoor pool and 25m x 21m for the indoor pool. What is the difference in the areas of the two pools?

6 3) Using the dimensions of a standard football field, calculate the area of each end zone and the area of the entire football field including the end zones. Show your work below. End End Zone Zone

7 Bermuda Florida Puerto Rico
4) The map of the famous Bermuda Triangle is drawn below. If the distance from Miami to San Juan is 1, 037 miles, and the height of the triangle is approximately miles, what is the approximate area of the Bermuda Triangle? Bermuda Florida Puerto Rico

8 Please work handout #5 by yourself.
You’re on your own!! Please work handout #5 by yourself.

9 Closure: We have been learning about how to find perimeter and area. You may use the formulas you have discovered or you may add the sides to find perimeter. Do any of you have any questions?

10 Homework: Page 301 in the Envision textbook numbers 1-10.
