LS1 TE/MPE/EE CABLE ACTIVITIES
2
Overview Securing iQPS and nQPS cables and cable-ends
Installation of instrumentation cables Extension/Replacement of cables considered too short Replacement of water-cooled cables covered by Bozhidar
3
Securing Preventive actions to limit damage due to other activities
Securing cables and cable-ends All iQPS and nQPS cables from the DYPB (yellow) racks All nQPS cables and ladders mounted over any LSS interconnect from Q7 to Q11 All nQPS D20 and D21 cables/connectors connected to IFS boxes where the DN200 is still to be installed. Sectors 2-3, 4-5, 7-8, 8-1 – 576 pieces. Re-mounting before IST tests

Installation 4 Distance DFB – Q10 : ~ 150 m DFB – Q8 : ~ 50 m Distance DFB – Q9 : ~ 100 m If you remember the powering scheme – very long midpoint instrumentation wiring. Very long mid-point instrumentation wires creating a loop from IFS box via busbars to DFB.

Installation 4 DFB – Q8 : ~ 50 m Distance DFB – Q9 : ~ 100 m Distance DFB – Q10 : ~ 150 m If you remember the powering scheme – very long midpoint instrumentation wiring. Very long mid-point instrumentation wires creating a loop from IFS box via busbars to DFB.
10
Installation 5 Q8, Q9 and Q10 with very long measurement/instrumentation cables. NOT EMI PROOF To overcome spurious trips and heater firing. 60 cases in 2011 leading to increase of QPS threshold from 100 mV to 400 mV in 2012. Less cases in 2012 but 400mV threshold unlikely to be accepted at higher energies. Solution: symmetrically re-routing the instrumentation cables on the front and back of the magnets to increase the EMC level. Avoid cryo-jumpers – cables in the front. Patches are needed in both ends of the cables Also to include the nQPS cabling scheme for these IPQs
11
Extension/Replacement
Extension/replacement of cables connected to the DYPB and DYPQ racks Many cables connected to the yellow racks have been found “too short” Rough estimation for total LHC machine 200 WorldFip cables 80 Powering cables – F3 case only 80 Interlock cables Final list to be delivered by MPE when disconnecting the racks meaning: No extra length to pull out the rack. After LS1 access is needed from behind the rack for corrective maintenance.

Presented by Bozhidar Replacement
Replacement of the 2000 mm2 water-cooled cables connected to the 13 kA Energy Extraction Switches See Bozhidar’s presentation Presented by Bozhidar

LS1 Actions – Short List Securing: Installation Q8, Q9, Q10:
Preparation – training of staff (AGH Crakow - TE/MPE) Installation Q8, Q9, Q10: Preparation – routing of cables – all points (EN/EL – TE/MPE) Patches – DFB side – IFS side – not to be underestimated (TE/MPE) Installation cables/cable ladders: EN/EL (Order prepared) Extension/Replacement of short cables: Preparation – List of cables with cable-numbers (AGH - TE/MPE) Installation: EN/EL
14
Resources Securing cables and cable ends:
Part of the dismounting of the yellow racks (AGH team – TE/MPE) Combined action with yellow rack decommissioning One week per sector – Sector order of SMACC to be respected Extension/Replacement of cables: List of cables with cable-numbers to be completed when dismounting the yellow racks (AGH team) Same combined action with yellow rack decommissioning Cable to be produced in advanced with standard lengths EN/EL? MPE work shop for LS1 – November 22-23, G.J. Coelingh TE-MPE-EE
15
Resources Installation (Q8, Q9 & Q10): Preparation – routing of cables
EN/EL - TE/MPE - 1 hour per case = 35 hours Patches – DFB side – IFS side – TE/MPE – Engineering and (SPIE) Manufacturing Patches to be mounted before HI-POT tests ELQA
16
Planning Securing cables and cable ends: Installation (Q8, Q9 & Q10):
Sector dependent – Start of LS1 – March – April – May 2013 Installation (Q8, Q9 & Q10): After SMACC train - Sector dependent – To de determined with EN/EL Extension/Replacement of cables: Sector dependent – To de determined with EN/EL – Fabio
