2 The Parent Handbook What is it? What does it include?
An essential resource for families. What does it include? Information about educational programs School Hours Attendance information What to do if your child is sick Etc. A school's "parent handbook" is one of the first and most important resources that new parents and students receive. When questions arise, this is the guide to which parents turn.

3 Typical Day in Our Preschool Classrooms
Arrival and sign in Wash hands Group meeting Writing Demo Snack Outside Reading Demo Choice Time Clean up Goodbye (See your classroom teacher for room specific schedule) Teachers explain what happens during each activity and approximate time. Teachers restate the hours of the class session and the importance of arriving and leaving on time.

4 School Safety Nurse Support
Medication/allergy information/health care plans/health education Statement of Health/immunizations Hearing and vision screenings Community health information/health insurance referrals Please call with any questions; the nurse is FULL-TIME at MCDC Appropriate Dress for the Weather We will have outside recess in weather between 20 and 90 degrees (unless actively raining or snowing) Appropriate shoes for playing/running (closed-toed shoes) Snack Parking Lot Etiquette No parking in fire lanes Slow down- children crossing Signing in and out Please remember to apply sunscreen/lip balm for sun protection daily before your child comes to school. It is much more effective when it has had time to sit on the skin before sun exposure. Mention where to pick up and drop off? Mention no parking in the bus loop. Mention that the parking lot is monitored by the Aurora Fire Department at random times. Tickets will be issued for illgal parking - including parking in the hadicapped spots without a sticker of license plate. The fine for the ticket is $50..

6 Curriculum and Assessments
Creative Curriculum Teaching Strategies GOLD Assessment System Focus is on the whole child-academic and developmental stages of learning. Preschool State Standards are embedded in activities. Documents whole child activities through authentic observations. Includes assessments in reading, writing and math, done 3 times throughout the year.

7 Conferences Parent/ teacher conferences time is used as a time to work together and exchange valuable information in order to provide the best learning experience possible for your child. Dates are in November, February and May (for preschoolers transitioning to kinder) Use an ILP to document and share growth in classroom and at home. Give sample of what an ILP looks like.

8 What To Bring Back Packs: Classroom Supply Lists:
Extra change of clothes Diapers and wipes How are we doing supply this year? (Brandy). Teachers should explain that all students need a change of clothing in case of a toileting accident, clothing becomes wet at the water table, student becomes ill, etc.

9 Family Partnership Activities
Parent Days: Occur 1 time per month (with the exception of November and March) Occur during the last hour of class (unless otherwise noted by teacher) Parent Coffees: Occur 1 time per month 9:45am-11:30am Topics include: Behavior management, Literacy, Math, Health, etc. Family Nights: Literacy Night (October) Math Night (January) STEAM Night (April) Teachers explain that parent days: upcoming events, create an educational activity that can be used at home-list some examples from past parent days. Teachers explain how Family nights work: Open house style-activities in each room. LOT’S Of FREEBIES!
