6 Food…Yum! Vegetables and fruit are the main foods. Also, fish, and beans. Plantains are popular in Ghana. They are usually fried or boiled.

7 Food….Yum! Fufu is a common meal. People make it by boiling yams, plantains or cassava roots.

8 Food…Yum! Most Ghanaians do not eat sweets. Sometimes, they eat freshly cut sugarcane.

9 Holidays Ghanaians celebrate independence day on March 6th when it won its independence from Great Britain in 1957 People watch parades and sing the national song.

10 Durbar

11 Durbar Is an important part of traditional celebrations.
It starts with a parade in the village. Everyone wears their best ntamas and pays tribute to their leaders of the highest ranking.

12 Money! The unit of currency is the cedi. One hundred pesewas equal one cedi 2,300 cedi equals one U.S. dollar

13 Games and Leisure Soccer is the most popular sport. Followed by boxing and swimming. Mancala is a game played with rocks. Oware is a game played with cups and beans. You pick up the most beans to win.

14 Culture -Families are important to Ghanaians. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins all live together. More than 60% live in villages.

15 Animals Lions, hyenas, elephants, antelopes, monkeys.
Reserves have been set up to keep animals safe so they aren’t hunted.
