1 Last Week’s Happenings
Ms. Watson’s Weekly Newsletter October 18, 2017 Last Week’s Happenings Writer’s Workshop Last week in writing, we began the editing phase of the writing process. We completed a proofreading activity involving a Jacob’s Ladder (TD resource) text that had errors, and then used proofreading bookmarks to edit our own work. We decided that sometimes it’s a good idea to peer edit, in case we missed any mistakes! We will be done editing this week and will be moving on to publishing our very first writing pieces! Reading Around the Room Last week in reading, we learned about different types of context clues, and how we can use them to determine the meaning of unknown words in nonfiction text. We also learned how to find the main idea of Congratulations to our very own MAGGIE HUFF on being voted by her school peers as Student Body President! We are so proud with how you handled the election, with style and grace!

2 -Science Project: due 10/23
Happening This Week… Math This week in Math with Ms. Crumpler, students will continue working on their Place Value Pathway. The common core standards that will be covered are NBT 1, NBT 2, NBT 3 and NBT 4. For homework this week, complete all unfinished in class assignments and turn in on Friday. Reading This week, we will be tested on Fictional Standards taught during the first unit. We will learn how to summarize nonfiction text. We will be given in class time to work on Reading Character Projects that are due Thursday 10/19. Thursday and Friday, we will have in class project presentations. On Tuesday 10/24, students will be assessed on Cycle 1 which consists of all standards/skills learned this far. Writing This week, we will finish the editing process of our first drafts. Next week, we will begin publishing! Our first published pieces will be due next Friday! Spelling No Spelling this week due to intensive writing and a short week! We will begin Caesar’s English lessons next Monday! Content This week in SS we will be learning about the early explorers, American Indians, and rights to own land. In Science, we will be learning about different types of clouds, and what causes clouds to form. Important Dates -10/19 In Class reading project due (information on website) -10/20 PUMPKIN DECORATING – volunteer to come in to help decorate class pumpkin that we will be auctioning off. -10/23 Science Weather Projects due (information can be found on class website) -10/24 Cycle 1 Reading Assessment -10/27 First payment due online for Charleston trip. See message under Ms. Watson’s notes! Notes from Ms. Watson  -Don’t forget to check our class website for any questions about schedules, projects, procedures, homework, etc! -PUMPKIN DECORATING: We will be decorating a pumpkin in class on Friday! Please reach out asap if you’d like to help out with this! Better yet, if you have paint you can bring in, or a LARGE pumpkin, it would be much appreciated!  me! -Reading Project: Remember these are due TOMORROW 10/19. Students have been given ample time in class to complete this, so I don’t expect to see any late submissions! I’m checking in with students daily to ensure they’re on track. -Science Project: due 10/23 -CHARLESTON TRIP: forms for payments and more info. Will be sent home in Thursday folders tomorrow. First payment of $100 is due October 27th. Please pay online as it is SO much easier! You can do that through
