2 Denver City and County Jails
Who we serve Students who are placed in “State Approved Facilities” that are outside of our district Denver City and County Jails

3 State Approved Facilities
Who approves the state facilities? The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) How many state approved facilities are there? 50+ What type of students do these facilities work with? Students who have severe emotional and behavioral needs

4 State Approved Facilities
Who places the students in the facilities? DPS mainly works with the following 5 Denver Metro area facilities: Denver Children’s Home Laradon Mount Saint Vincent Serenity Tennyson Center for Children Outside agencies may also place students at any of the CDE State Approved Facilities: A few of the outside agencies: Department of Human Services (DHS) Department of Youth Corrections (DYC) Court System

5 Programs within State approved facilities
DPS works with all 3 programs ensuring that our students are receiving the appropriate services as stated in the child’s IEP School Only Day Treatment Residential

6 What dps provides to the facilities
DPS Pays for educational services If needed DPS will provide related services Assistive Technology SLP’s Hearing OT/PT SCHOOL ONLY DAY TREATMENT DPS provides transportation DPS may provide some Mental Health services based on the child’s IEP needs Most Mental Health related services are funded by Medicaid

8 Denver City & County Jail
#923 DCCJ Denver City & County Jail AKA “The Jail kids” WHY WE SERVE: In May 2010, Senate Bill was signed and put into effect basically stating: “That juveniles being tried or housed as adults get educational services.” WHO WE SERVE: Juveniles aged who have Special Education status and are housed in the Denver City and County Jails STATISTICS: DPS is the ONLY district to follow this Bill and offer services to students in adult jails Over 115 students served since 2011 Most of the students enrolled in #923 are interested in support to help them pass the GED offered at the jail.

9 Facility Extended School Year (ESY)
During the IEP meeting, if the team feels ESY is needed they must submit the following: IEP Data tracking forms Predictive Factors 1066 Transportation Form Student Registration Form If the student qualifies for ESY, DPS will pay educational costs for: 6 weeks of education Transportation is provided as needed
