2. Purpose of trip To give the children a chance :
To develop their independence by working with others;
To have the opportunity to spend time away from their family but with the support of friends and teachers;
To experience life in another city;
To give further context to the English curriculum in Y4;
W arrange day and night groups so that children work with people they are comfortable with as well as new people so that they get the opportunity to build new friendships across the year.
Chance to experience the sights and sounds of another city that is full of life, history and sights to see. History in Pitts River Museum helps put artefacts into context and they learn how historians discover what life was like in the past. Roald Dahl links really well with our work in the summer term in Eng using RD as inspiration for our own writing.

3. Oxford 2018 Thurs 21st June Weds 20th June Fri 22nd June
Leave school on the weds morning, stop at farm to play and have lunch, farm – sheep racing!! Tractor ride and feeding/stroking animals reach oxford late afternoon, unpack, settle in, rules and expectations etc. Dinner and play in park (read story, dvd if weather bad)
Day 2 breakfast, choose lunch, 2 groups leave for the day to do bus tour, castle and museum, hoe, dinner and play in park if they have the energy!
Day 3 pack, breakfast, leave for Roald Dahl museum, lunch at museum, activity with the centre – workshop and creating characters and editing their work, toilet etc coach home
Usually back by 5 ish depending on traffic

4. Groups We have both day groups and night rooms.
Day groups are mixed- they will contain both boys and girls and a mix of children from across the 4 classes. Day groups have a maximum of 10 children.
Night groups – Boys and girls are in separate bedrooms of 4-6 children.
Children will get the opportunity in April to name a child that they would like to be part of both their day and night group. This ensures that the children have someone they know well/trust as part of their groups.
The overall group leader is not assigned a group of children, so is available to support across all groups at all times.
At night time, if children struggling to sleep we will support and help, make them feel calm, maybe read for a few mins with own night light, stay with them as long as they need us. If they cry, we will comfort them until they are asleep.
Have had sleep walkers in the past, we patrol to make sure everyone asleep and secure, then in the night do another check, alos security staff at centre watch corridors and patrol the whole night. SECURE

6. Accommodation
Accommodation is of a very high standard. We book an entire floor out for our stay.
Doors have keys (similar to a swipe card). Red Hill staff will look after all keys. Children are trained not to open doors without asking “Who is it please?”
All rooms are ensuite and sleep between 4 and 6 children.

7. Food
Choice of 2 or 3 meals combinations per day (including vegetarian options).
Special diets/allergies are catered for.
Plenty of water/squash available at every meal.
A full cooked breakfast is available along with cereals and bread/toast.
They provide packed lunches on two days.
Even the fussiest eater finds something they can eat!
An examples of an evening meal might be roasted pieces of chicken, the choice of chips or jacket potato, beans, sweetcorn or peas, a salad bowl to pick from. Then pudding might be a choice of apple pie, yoghurt or fruit.
Lunches consist of a sandwich which the children choose, a bag of crisps, a piece of fruit and a small cake – they create a little production line, walk along line collecting it choose each part. ALL provided with a bottle of water.
NO SNACKS IN BAGS _ they don’t sleep, get more upset!!!

8. Health and safety
Risk assessment of the journey to Oxford and visits to the various places/activities are carried out by me and approved by the Headteacher and the Governors – adult:pupil ratio is at least 1:10.
If your child has additional needs please come and speak to me as soon as possible so we can plan how to meet their needs whilst in Oxford.
We have an Emergency Plan in place should we need to use it during the course of the trip. This is also sent to the Local Authority.
Children must behave in a safe and acceptable way.
Bedroom doors have key cards that the adults are responsible for.
LA travel insurance is included in the price with standard conditions.
We supervise them closely around centre – stay with school adults at all times, even when staff at museum and RD centre leading activity.
We accompany each group, school adult respo0nsible for their group and I have overall lead and an overview of where they are.

9. What now?
Non-refundable deposit of £50 to secure a place. This needs to be paid via School Shop online. Keep to payment deadlines. Maximum of 70 places.
The cost of the trip for 2018 is approximately £160 made up of the accommodation, travel by coach, open top bus tour of Oxford, entrance fees to the museums etc.
Payment can be made in instalments during the year but the full amount will need to be paid by April 2018.
The facility to pay the deposit online will go live on Friday 24th November 2017 at approximately 9am. This allows any parents who haven’t been able to attend today to read the information before the deposit has to be paid.
