1 Properties of Real Numbers
1.2 Notes Properties of Real Numbers

2 Warm-up: 1) -(-7.2) = 3) (-3.4)(-2) 2) 1 – (-3) = 4)

3 Objectives and Vocabulary
To graph and order real numbers To identify properties of real numbers VOCABULARY: Opposite Additive Inverse Reciprocal Multiplicative Inverse

4 Place these numbers on the number line.

5 Real Numbers Natural Numbers
naturally what babies start with (counting) Whole Numbers natural numbers and zero. Integers - natural numbers, zero, and negative integers. Each negative integer is the additive inverse (or opposite) of a positive integer

6 Real Numbers Rational Numbers -all numbers that can be written as quotients (division) of integers. - can be terminating decimals or repeating decimals. Irrational Numbers - cannot be written as quotients of integers - decimal representations neither terminate or repeat (like pi). - if positive rational number in not a perfect square root such as 25 or then, its square root is irrational.
