Armin Schorer CEO 35 years in healthcare for surgical instruments and medical devices 20 years processing of OR and CSSD with design of software 15 years research in marking surgical instruments with RFID technology 1998 founding ASANUS in Neuhausen ob Eck, nearby Tuttlingen South-West Germany my vision „All Processes around in Operating Theatre fully electronical transparent“ Business units Surgical Instruments Informationtechnology - Software engineering with RFID Technology
2
Digitalisation of Operating Theatre and CSSD Quality Assurance with Real Time Logistics
3
Actual situation in hospitals
Central Sterilisation Department Operating theatre Low or no detailed information about about daily needs in OR (Black Box) low knowledge about operation purpose of surgical instruments No daily real time plan about the OR needs for surgical instruments Maintainaince, sterilisation and supply of surgical instruments with high pressure for cssd staff Communication via phone and paper no real time low payed staff with low education level for high tech maintainance for thousands of different surgical instrument types of millions $ value! No view and information into CSSD workflow processes (BlackBox) No information about status and content of sterile packed instrument sets High pressure in OR „time is money“ exchange time for next patient is to long! Low knowledge about cleaning, maintainance and of surgical instruments Expectation: Everything is ready for use when they do need it. Comunication to CSSD via phone or paper
4
Consequences Central Sterilisation Department Operating theatre
Fealures during packing of instruments into trays upon missing items or wrong item packed Uncoordinated supply of instruments to OR due to missing OR informations of their demands Finger pointing from OT staff to CSSD staff with high conflict potential and frustration High sick rate of staff – pressure Missing Instruments in sets Wrong instrument in sets Searching of instruments Additional use of full sterile other set for getting one search Long waiting time for patient and staff upon seaching Operation postpone upon searching OR time become longer Costs increase Frustration and conflict OR - CSSD
5
Risk for Patient – left Instrument in body
Hip Implant Operation instruments – 20 sets Counting 2 persons a. before operation b. after operation Which human is perfect and counting as a machine? 3000 lost items per year in German hospitals Source: Study by Siemens 2007 Re operation cost ,-- Euro + image loss + penalties + ………………

ASANUS Solution with RFID und BarCon Software
Central Sterilisation Department Operating theatre RFID registration at entrance of OR and disposal out of OR area Digital information about set content packed in CSSD of each instrument Digital information about set localisation Counting of instruments during operation with RFID registration – all items are out of patient ! Marking surgical instrument with RFID chip RFID registration during packaging process of instruments –all items have to be registration RFID RFID Set RFID Marking of sterile container set with RFID RFID Registration of sterile containers at supply RFID trolley RFID

Digitalistion Results in hospitals
Central Sterilisation Department Operating theatre Digital real time communication with ASANUS BarCon Software and RFID Tags Unique worldwide Digital information of Daily operation plan and it´s instruments and material demand for each case Material movement from CSSD to OR and back repairs of instruments from OT Claims from OT Maintainance and media information of each instrument Efficiency in planing and preparing sets in CSSD for OT in real time Lesser trays needed per Operation Lower costs Staff more motivated – more output! Digital information of Setcontent in real time User manuals for items in OT Set localisation status Instrument Sets are permanent complete ready for use 10x faster counting of instruments in OT Saftey of patient assured with digital RFID counting process in OT – no instrument may be left in patient!
8
Case Care Management Software by ASANUS
In real time monitoring of material demand and supply status in supply and user areas Unique worldwide
9
Conclusion Intelligent BarCon Software with RFID Chip Technology do automating processes in hospital Automatization of processes do lower significant the total production costs improve significant the quality of work achieve maximum patient saftey!
