CNIDARIA BY ANJLI .K HEAVEN .M
2
GENERAL FACTS The outer layer, called the ectoderm, and the inner layer, called the endoderm, are separated by an amorphous, ACELLULAR layer called the MESOGLEA. Cnidarians have no well-defined separate respiratory, circulatory, or excretory organs; their tissues, composed of two cell layers. CNIDOCYTES contain fluid-filled capsules (nematocysts) with a HARPOONLIKE coiled thread used for stinging, paralyzing, and capturing prey.

CNIDARIAN SPECIES
4
AEQUOREA VICTORIA JELLY FISH
Kingdom: ANIMALIA Phylum: CNIDARIA Class: HYDROZOA Order: HYROIDA Suborder: LEPTOMEDUSAE Family :AEQUOREIDAE Species: AEQUOREA VICTORIA
5
FACTS ABOUT AEQUOREA VICTORIA JELLY FISH
HABITAT: Sea to southern California in the northeast Pacific similar medusa also occur in the North Atlantic and in Alaska FOODSOURCE: Zooplankton, comb jellies, crustaceans, sunfish, spadefish, sea turtles and occasionally other jellyfish. SIZE: 5 to 20 cm in diameter
6
PORTUGUESE MAN OF WAR KINGDOM: ANMALIA Phylum : CNIDARIA
Class : HYDROZOA Order: SIPHONOPHORA Suborder: RHIZOPHYSALIAE Family: PHYSALIIDAE Genus: PHYSALIA Species: PHYSALIA PHYSALIS
7
FACTS ABOUT PORTUGUESE MAN OF WAR
HABITAT: Floating on the surface of the ocean in warm tropical and subtropical areas and also be found in places like Atlantic coast, Florida Keys and Gulf of Mexico. FOOD SOURCE: Small fish, plankton and Crustaceans. SIZE: 7ft in diameter and tentacles can reach up to 100ft.
8
CORAL CLASSIFICATION Phylum:Cnidaria Class:Hydrozoa
Subclass:Octocorallia Order:Actinaria, Zooanthiniaria and Scleractina
9
INTERESTING FACTS CNIDARIA
PORTUGUESE MAN OF WAR: Nematocysts are tightly packed with tiny, coiled, stinging barbs that shoot out whenever the cells are disturbed either by something brushing up against them, or by osmotic water changes. AEQUOREA VICTORIA: Most jelly fish’s live 6 months or less in the field. the entire population of AEQUOREA VICTORIA disappears (dies) by mid-autumn every year. Jellyfish do not flash each other in the dark, nor do they glow continuously. Coral: types of coral fringing reefs, barrier reefs, and atolls
10
FACTS ABOUT CORAL HABITAT: shallow tropical or subtropical seas
SIZE:1 inch (2.5 centimeters) in diameter. But a small percentage measure as much as 1 foot (30 centimeters FOOD SOURCE: coral eat zooxanthellae algae and they receive there energy from zooxanthellae algae photosynthesis
11
HUMAN IMPACT CORAL: They contribute to biodiversity and they also protect coastlines from erosion by strong ocean waves and can even produce the sand that makes up beaches and Deforestation can cause harm to coral reefs JELLYFISH: Some jellyfish can inflict painful and dangerous stings to people. Jellyfish called sea wasps or box jellyfish inject a poison deadlier than any snake venom
