DEMOCRACY/BRITISH VALUES EXPLORE WEEK 9th – 13th October 2017
2
Aim: To develop a deeper understanding of British values and Britain’s democratic systems.
3
As a school we wanted to promote British values and democratic processes and decided to carry out a school election to do this. The children undertook some research into parliament, democracy and found out who our local councillors are. They learnt about what an election is and all about the election process. FS2 and KS2 children carried out classroom votes and made fact files and posters about rules and the government. KS2 children volunteered to take part in the school election and worked in teams to create manifestos applying persuasive writing techniques for their class candidates. The following week the children were invited to the ‘polling station’ (hall) to vote for their chosen parties. The Yr6 children counted the votes and we announced who the new school councillors were.
