LINNAKAUPUNKI (”CASTLETOWN”) PARTIAL MASTER PLAN, 25.2.2012
The Castletown area will be developed to supplement the urban structure of the City. The land use of old, unefficiently used industrial and harbour areas – so-called brownfields - shall be renewed and the efficiency increased. The overall diffuse appearance of the built surroundings will be enhanced and transformed in an urban environment. The medieval Castle and its surroundings will be highlighted as a historical site of international attractivity. The touristic functions of the ferry harbour shall be linked to the activities of the Castletown area. The implementation of the plan is scheduled for approximately 2030 – 2035. Castletown will be developed as a district for pedestrians and cycling. Sustainability shall be adapted in all detail projects on the Castletown area, in all its respects, ecological, economical and social. KIRSTINPUISTO DETAILED PLAN, 2013 onwards One of the first detailed plans to be realized within the Castletown area. Kirstinpuisto will be developed as a district oriented for pedestrians and cycling.

Excess of hard, non-absorbing surfaces and lack of green areas
Waters of the railyard area conducted through Kirstinpuisto Threat of water loads from neighbouring zones and the nearby sea Limits of the existing drainage infrastructure Risk of sea water flooding through the drainage pipes Pressure of the Kakola water treatment plant on the installations of the zone
