Structure: (revisit here) - Fathom 4’s structure is built on the premise that DoD level project execution is hard enough as it is, and we are not going to make it any harder. There are two main aspects of our structure: 1) the way we view the relationship between client-facing work and back-office support, and 2) the Strong Matrix approach to project management. This month we will focus on the first of two aspects of our structure:
Client Facing and Back Office Support Personnel:
This two-pronged setup is very common within services companies. The client facing people are the ‘product’ and the people who execute back office support keep the office running by managing payroll, HR, administering fringe benefits, etc. These are the services for which a client is not specifically asking, but are necessary to keep the company functioning. Many organizations espouse a culture where the back-office support people make the client-facing people beg and plead to get their support. We do the complete opposite by ensuring that our back-office support personnel work FOR the client-facing personnel. The client-facing personnel are, in turn, the back office’s customer. This philosophy is critical to how we have structured our company.
