2. Welcome Parents!
Please find your child’s seat, and write them a short note of encouragement for the school year. You may leave it on their desks for them to read in the morning.
Take their letters to you and the parent survey home and complete it at your earliest convenience.

3. Meet the Teacher
This is my third year as a 5th grade teacher at Manoa School, and my fifth year of full-time teaching.
I believe a strong home-school relationship fosters each child’s growth!
Each child has unique talents and learning styles and I work to provide diverse experiences to engage my students.

4. Parent –Teacher Communication
Throughout the year you can expect:
Graded classwork and assessments to be sent home for parent review on the first and third Monday of the month
One progress report mid-way though each quarter

We want children to perceive challenges as opportunities to learn, not just obstacles to overcome.
We focus on:
Reframing beliefs about themselves in a positive light.
Sticking with problems and tasks for the long run.
Viewing failure as an opportunity to learn.
Reflecting on mistakes and planning for the next attempt.

17. Grit Slips
Students are expected to turn in homework assignments by designated due date.
If assignments are incomplete, they must fill out a Grit Slip and have it signed by a parent
Grit Slips for homework may be voided by thoroughly completing homework 4 days in a row.
Behavior Grit Slips cannot be voided as they are considered “strike 3”
