30 PLAGIARISM www.ait.asia Definition:
the presentation of someone else’s ideas or words as your own (The Little, Brown Handbook, 1992: 578.)

31 EXAMPLES OF PLAGIARISM
copying an assignment from a classmate and submitting it as your own; having someone else write a paper for you (paid or not) and claiming it as your own;

32 EXAMPLES OF PLAGIARISM
copying material from any source, including a book, a paper, or the web without properly citing the source.

33 WHY WE SHOULD NOT PLAGIARIZE?
It is unfair not to acknowledge your colleagues for the work they have done. Readers will be inclined to think you are far more intelligent and creative than you actually are. It is misleading and perhaps dishonest to present the work of your colleagues as your own.

34 HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM
Acknowledge borrowed material within the text by introducing the quotation or paraphrase with the name of the authority from whom it was taken. Enclose within quotation marks all quoted materials. Make certain that paraphrased material is written in your own style and language. The simple rearrangement of sentence patterns is unacceptable. From Lester, James D. (1976). Writing Research Papers: A Complete Guide

35 PLAGIARISM www.ait.asia www.ait.asia Turnitin anti-plagiarism software
All theses and research studies are subject to electronic plagiarism checking before the final defense can be conducted.  All doctoral dissertations are subject to checking before they can be sent to the external examiner for evaluation.
