1 Molecular characterization of the sinus node at the late fetal stage in the mouse, as assessed by in situ hybridization of mRNA for connexin 40 (left) and Tbx3 (right). The cells of the sinus node are specifically positive for Tbx3, which is not expressed in the atrial musculature, and lacking connexin 40. Connexin 40 is expressed in the myocardium of atrial chambers, the sleeve of the superior caval vein, and the endothelium of the sinus node artery. Source: Chapter 17.
