1 What we will do What we will learn 10N 26 Mahuru 2017
Quick quiz and preliminaries How to start well Revisit the chemical formulae and names of the three main acids used in school labs What they are and how to write them (both ways) Revisit the results for an acid & a metal reacted – (many of them) to see the pattern, starting with the one we did in the lab How to find a pattern and then use it to make the memory work smaller Examine solubility, insolubility, solutions and precipitates Why some “mixes” make “solid snow”

2 10N – Seating Plan Front of lab - Whiteboard

3 HW item Skills practiced Pages 1 – 25 of Motion booklet
Due Pd 2, Thursday 27 July 2017 Movement, forces and acceleration Pages of Motion/Light booklet Due Pd 2, Thurs 7 Sept 2017 (Sorry Zach) How light behaves. End of Topic Test: Motion & Light Due Pd 5, Fri 25th of Aug 2017 How well we learned the material in the unit on Motion and Light

9 Incompatible Ions. There are times when we mix two ionic solutions together and this causes two ions that were not together to become mixed. For some combinations of ions, these become insoluble and form solids that settle out of solution. These settled solids are called precipitates (because they “fall out” like rain and snow “fall out”)

10 Rules for Dissolving Compound Type Solubility Nitrates All soluble
Chlorides All soluble except Silver Chloride and Lead Chloride Sulfates/Sulphates All soluble except Lead Sulphate, Calcium Sulphate and Barium Sulphate

11 Compound Type Solubility Carbonates All INSOLUBLE except for those of group one (Na, K…) Hydroxides All INSOLUBLE except those of group one (Na, K…)
