3. Biography
American photographer who was famous for his abstract photos. Born in 1903, Siskind was originally an English teacher in the New York public school. Soon after becoming a teacher, he was attracted by the documentary photography and began photographing in the 1930s with an eye to social documentary. He was a member of the New York photo league and published a book called Harlem Document as well as produced a number of photo series and essays.
