Trust What does trust mean to you as a manager?
Trust repair with individuals vs group Trust is harder to repair with a group than an individual – Consider a situation where a manager lies about bonus payments for the sales force. An individual repair with an employee would be easier than repairing the trust with the entire sales force For an integrity based trust violation Trust more difficult to repair when denying culpability Easier to maintain or earn trust when apologizing As a manager, avoid integrity based trust violations at all cost

Exercise Trust in a Team
Purpose - To highlight the 3 aspects of trust outlined in "An Integrative Model of Organizational Trust." Open for discussion and how it changes based on where trust is applied Directions - Get in current MBA teams. After review of the 3 aspects of trust, ask the individual to take out a piece of paper and write down Ability, Benevolence, and Integrity. The assignment will be to comment on each of the aspects of trust and rank them in order of importance (1-3, 1 being the most important) for qualifying a potential team member to be added to current MBA group they are in (answers will vary, as each team may be different. Perhaps one team lacks a finance person, etc). After 5-7 minutes have each team briefly share their responses and ranks. Discuss why. For part two, have the groups get back together again and flip over the paper. Now task the groups with the same exercise; however this time they are considering aspects of trust for their professor. Rank and comment on each factor again. Compare the results as a group. Why did you rank the way you did for a new team member compared to a new professor? Were there similarities? Differences? Further discuss.

Exercise Trust Cars Purpose - To encourage trust among team members, identify barriers of trust within others, and open up discussion points about trust Directions - In pairs, team up for an A and B. A is the Car and will close his or her eyes as B is the driver with his or her eyes open. B will use his or her hands on the shoulders of A to steer them like a vehicle. B will use a light squeeze on the left shoulder for a left turn, light squeeze on the right shoulder for a right turn. A hand in the middle of the back will signal as stop. Navigate through obstacles in the room and use communication.
