2. Commutative Property
The order of the factors doesn’t affect the product.
So if you know 3 x 6 = 18, then 6 x 3 = 18
This means you only have to memorize half of them.

3. Zero and Identity properties
Any number multiplied by zero equals a product of zero.
6 x 0 = 0 Six sets of nothing is still nothing.
0 x 1,000,000 = 0 No sets of 1,000,000 is nothing.
Any number multiplied by one equals the other factor.
1 x 7 = 7
999 x 1 = 999

4. Multiplying by ten and five
8 x 10 = 80 because it is having eight sets of ten.
Or you can just count by 10.
10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 , 80
Multiplying by ten is like getting that many tens in base ten blocks.
To multiply by five just count by fives
5 x 9=
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45
Or you can multiply by 10 and split the product in half.
5 x 6 =
6 x 10 = 60
60 split is 30

5. Doubles, doubles, and more doubles
To multiply by 2 just double the other factor.
2 x 8 =
8 + 8 = 16
To multiply by 4 just double then double again.
4 x 6 =
6 + 6 = 12
= 24
To multiply by 8 just double then double then double again.
8 x 3=
3 + 3= 6
= 24

6. Multiplying by 3 and 6
To multiply by 3 just double the other factor and then add it again.
3 x 6 =
6 + 6 = 12
= 18
To multiply by 6 first multiply by 3 then double that product.
6 x 8 =
3 x 8 =
8 + 8 = 16 then = 24
= 48

Or multiply the other factor by 10 and then subtract one set of the other factor
9 x 6 =
6 x 10 = 60
60 – 6 = 54

8. Multiply by 7, 11, and 12 using distributive property
7 x 8 =
Split 7 into 5 + 2
11 x 3 =
Split 11 into 10 and 1
12 x 9=
Split 12 into 10 and 2
Multiply by each
piece of 7
5 x 8 = 40 and 2 x 8 = 16
10 x 3 =30 and 1 x 3
10 x 9 = 90 and 2 x9 = 18
Then add the totals together
= 56 so 7 x 8 = 56
