3. Introductory Rites
The Introductory Rites gather the community and allow the people to unite in mind, heart and spirit.
Please note: Changes to the text are shown in larger print and are also in bold type.

4. Entrance Chant
We stand and join together as Christ’s people, opening the celebration by raising our voices in praise of God who is present among us.
The entrance chant or song accompanies the procession of the priest, deacon or other ministers to the altar.

5. Sign of the Cross & Greeting
Celebrant: In the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
Celebrant: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit
be with you all. OR
Grace to you and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.

6. Penitential Act
Before we hear God’s word, we acknowledge our sins humbly, ask for mercy and accept God’s pardon.
As a community we express sorrow for our sins in ONE of THREE forms provided in the Penitential Act.

7. Penitential Act 1 and to you, my brothers and sisters,
Celebrant: Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
People: I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
And, striking their breast, they say:
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Celebrant: May almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
People: Amen.

9. Penitential Act 2
Celebrant: Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Have mercy on us, O Lord.
People: For we have sinned against you.
Celebrant: Show us, O Lord, your mercy.
People: And grant us your salvation.
Celebrant: May almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
People: Amen.

Celebrant: Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
You were sent to heal the contrite of heart:
Lord, have mercy.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Celebrant: You came to call sinners:
Christ, have mercy.
People: Christ, have mercy.
Celebrant: You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us: Lord, have mercy.

Celebrant: May almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.

12. Gloria
This is an ancient hymn and a joyful act of praise to God.
Whenever possible, the Gloria should be sung rather than recited.
The Gloria is used at Sunday Masses outside the seasons of Advent and Lent, on Solemnities and Feasts, and at special celebrations.

and on earth peace to people of good will.

15. Collect It begins with ‘Let us pray’ where we pray our own intentions.
The Collect or Opening Prayer concludes the Introductory Rites.
It begins with ‘Let us pray’ where we pray our own intentions.
The priest then gathers or collects the intentions of the people and offers these intentions to God.
The people now take their seats to listen to the Word of God.

God is revealed to us in the proclamation of the Holy Scriptures.

We stand as we sing the acclamation before the Gospel.

19. Profession of Faith
We stand and respond to the Word of God by affirming our belief in the truths that unite us as one Body in Christ.
The Profession of Faith is sung or said by the priest with the people on Sundays and Solemnities.

maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,

through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,

21. Nicene Creed in accordance with the Scriptures.
At the words that follow up to and including and became man, all bow.
All: and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

All: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.

The Apostles Creed can also be used, especially during Lent and Easter.

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
At the words that follow, up to and including the Virgin Mary, all bow.
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,

The Liturgy of the Word concludes with the Prayer of the Faithful.
We unit with one another by praying for today’s needs in the Church and the world.
We are seated as the gifts are taken to the altar.

We have gathered and have been challenged and formed by God’s word.
We now focus our attention on the altar.
We express our participation by making an offering, bringing forward the bread and wine and other gifts to relieve the needs of the Church and the poor.

that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.
The people stand and reply:
People: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good
and the good of all his holy Church.

Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Celebrant: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right and just.

31. The Sanctus People: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

32. Memorial Acclamation Celebrant: The mystery of faith.
People: We proclaim your Death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.
OR When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup,

you have set us free.

34. The Lord’s Prayer and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Celebrant: At the Saviours command

People: Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed by thy name;
thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

36. The Sign of Peace Celebrant: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
People: And with your spirit.
Celebrant: Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

37. Breaking of the Bread
Celebrant: May this mingling of the Body and Blood
of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.
People: Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

38. Communion behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Celebrant: Behold the Lamb of God,

The Communion Rite concludes with the Prayer After Communion, where the people stand.
Announcement can be made following the Prayer After Communion.

The Concluding Rites bring the Mass to a close telling us to go forth and continue God’s mission in the world.

42. The Dismissal Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Celebrant: Go forth, the Mass is ended.
OR Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.
OR Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.
OR Go in peace.
People: Thanks be to God.
