Anna and the King Anna and the King shows the differences between two persons personality, cultures. These differences started when Anna came to Siam with her son Louis to teach the children of the King. Anna is direct person she says what she thinks, she has a strong character and the king is an inflexible person with a good heart and a strong desire of make his people develop without forgetting their own culture.

Clash One Act like a God Power Distance
First culture clash that I would like to talk about is that The King is used to be treat like a god because in the Siam culture the King is treat like a god. everyone have to worship the king by kneel down in front of him and it was not acceptable to anyone to look at him at the eyes which was a main culture clash for Anna because in her culture the king was an important person who must be respect and her way of showing was making a bow and talk to him looking straight to his eyes because for her not looking to a person when they were talking was unrespect full. When they see the king they must put their head on the ground even children. -In Bangkok all people when the king is walking near to them they should put their head on the ground. And that’s showing as a respect. -In Britain they only speak nicely to the king to show respect or simple curvature to show respect. Power Distance Siam:64 England:35

Clash Two Indulgence versus restraint Treatment women
Second culture clash that in Siam men never said “ sorry “ for women but in England its accepted . The fight happened when the king’s son and Anna’s son , and louis apologized to his mom. Then the kings son said that men never apologize to women and refused to apologize. This is because of strong Masculinity vs femininity dimension in England reverse the Siam. In Bangkok man never tell women he’s sorry for anything. -In Bangkok man never tell the women sorry because women should respect the men. -In Britain men and women are equal if one of them is wrong they should tell sorry. Indulgence versus restraint Siam:45 England:69

The Way Of Women Wear Clash Three
Long term orientation versus short term normative orientation (LTO) The Way Of Women Wear -In England: women wear big dress with huts and hold umbrella in their hand. -In siam: women wear is shawl-like garment, or breast cloth. Sabais can be used by women and men. Sabai is also known as a long piece of silk, about a foot wide, draped diagonally around the chest by covering one shoulder which its end drops behind the back. When the king come and talk to Anna to help them before the delegation was foreign presence Anna was learned some traditions and she have made the wives wore dress and children to become elegant and beauty. Long term orientation versus short term normative orientation (LTO) Siam:32 England:35

Clash Four individualism and collectivism
Other clashAsking personal questions in Siam (Asia) is considered as a very polite and it is normal no matter what was the question such as: when the ministry asked the teacher about her husband, when and how he dies. However she feels very angry and tries to stop him from asking privacy questions because in England it conceded as very impolite questions. individualism and collectivism Siam:20 England:89

Clash Five Masculinity vs. Femininity
Finally, the last and a main culture clash is that Anna doesn’t believe the King should have so many wives, but it is the way things are done in Siam. Anna believes that a man and a woman should share a relationship which is sacred only to themselves, But she was surprised that the King’s 32 wives all were friendly and they don’t feel jealous which was a strange thing for her and hard to understand Masculinity vs.femininity Siam:34 England:66
