Message to the Managers and Coaches
Dixie Youth Baseball’s Message to the Managers and Coaches
2
Of all the adults involved in the functioning of the program,
you are the most important because you are most closely associated with the players themselves.
3
You have a tremendous responsibility of leadership
and a great capacity for doing good. In some ways you are more than a father to these young ball players while you have them, and the example you set for them will go with them into the future.
4
In order to insure the proper leadership and example
certain reminders for the managers and coaches are felt advisable.
5
These are offered in the hope
that all will accept them in the spirit they are given – merely to insure that our youngsters – the best our country produces – will not be led astray by our failure in leadership.
6
They look to us for the example. If we do it, that makes it okay –
be sure that what we say or do will be in good taste.
7
Bear in mind that regardless of our opinion or feeling
we must set our principles at the level that will suit the most exacting parent.
8
With these thoughts in mind kindly note the following:
Your prime consideration is the child.
9
You are dealing with immaturity;
except this from your players.
10
Treat each one as an individual
11
Don’t ignore anyone on your team.
Make each one feel he is an important cog
12
Remember, this is amateur baseball, strictly for enjoyment,
not as a life or death matter – victory or else.
13
It is your responsibility to instill in your players
true sportsmanship and sound fundamental baseball knowledge.
14
the physical limitations of your players.
Remember, the physical limitations of your players. They are undergoing rapid physical growth.
15
Always use moderation in practice sessions, scheduling of games,
amount of play for each player.
16
Never condemn for an error. Point out mental errors constructively.
17
DESIRE, should become the main ingredients you seek.
HUSTLE should become a byword for the players. Insist on all-out effort as the only way a ball player should conduct himself.
18
Set an example by modest in victory, gracious in defeat.
19
always have a rule book handy.
Know the rules – always have a rule book handy.
20
Insist that your players look like
baseball players – properly and fully dressed.
21
or questionable language around any of your players at any time.
Never use any profane or questionable language around any of your players at any time.
22
Never come to practice or games after drinking.
23
Don’t smoke on field.
24
Remember participation – not championships – is our objective.
25
your time to this cause – without you there would be no such program.
Thank you for your willingness to devote your time to this cause – without you there would be no such program.
