1. Podcasting: Part 2 + iMovie

2. Last time…
In our last class, we discussed ways to use Podcasts in the classroom. Teachers can create them as instructional tools (like many of you started to do last week) or students can create them as a way to share their work.
We went through the steps of creating a Podcast last week. If you missed it, you had to first create a script (using a Word chart) and find pictures of the different parts of your Podcast.
Now, we are going to learn how to create and publish the actual Podcast. If you missed part one, feel free to visit ceucutillo.wordpress.com for instructions and materials from last week.

3. Recording a Podcast: Tips
Make sure to record one section at a time.
Record under “male” or “female” voice based on your gender.
After recording each part, go back and listen to yourself. I know your voice will sound weird to you, but make sure the entire part is recorded.
When you are finished with the entire Podcast, go back and listen to it as a whole.
Add your pictures to the top track. Find them in the folder on the right hand side (or drag and drop your folder from the desktop) and drag and drop according to their order. You can slide these forward and backward to adjust their time length.
Extras: You can add a jingle at the beginning and sound effects if they are appropriate. This is very easy- just drag and drop into the part of your Podcast where you’d like the sounds to come in. If you want a new track for sound or sound effects, go to “Track” and click “Create New Track”

4. Publishing a Podcast This is very simple!
Click “Share” in the toolbar menu. Then, drop down to “Send Podcast to iTunes.”
You can drag and drop your Podcast into your iPod if you plug it in.
If you’d rather save it to a USB drive, click “Export Podcast to Disk.” Select “Desktop,” and then your Podcast file will be created.
You can drag and drop this file right into your USB drive.

5. Publication Apple accepts many Podcasts into the iTunes store.
There is also an application called “iTunes University,” where educators can create online “classes” where material is organized and audio, video, and Podcasts can be added. This is an app
If you want your Podcast to be considered for publication in iTunes, follow the steps below:
Submitting Your Podcast to the iTunes Store.
If you can successfully subscribe to your feed using the Advanced menu in iTunes, you’re ready to submit your feed:
Launch iTunes.
In the left navigation column, click on iTunes Store to open the store.
Once the store loads, click on Podcasts along the top navigation bar to go to the Podcasts page.
In the right column of the Podcasts page, click on the Submit a Podcast link.
Follow the instructions on the Submit a Podcast page.

7. iMovie
iMovie is a technology available to everyone with a Mac computer. If you don’t have a Mac, don’t worry! You can create an iMovie today and publish to YouTube, accessible anywhere.
Four major ways iMovie can be used in class:
1.) Introducing concepts
2.) Modeling alternative teaching strategies
3.) Reviewing and reflecting upon shared events
4.) Documenting learning or presenting personal accomplishment

8. More specifically… Ideas for using iMovie in the classroom:
Create a digital book summary
To produce a videocast about current events
To create a movie that depicts different parts of speech
Slideshow from the school year, a class trip, etc
Slideshow of pictures about a topic
Use to create a movie that depicts proper classroom behavior (BTS night)
Create a sigh language movie
To capture and assess oral readings
To record a conference with a subject matter expert
Have students record and edit their school play
Create a movie on life skills
Expose students to different types of culture by creating video documentaries
Create a video field trip
Record a Radio/TV Show video for Social Studies
