Timings and Attendance
Classroom doors will be opened at 8.45 am and from this time children can come in. This is also the time to pass on any short messages. Children will not be allowed home with different adults/siblings unless we have been informed. All days are busy and a lot of learning is covered in different subject areas. Please try to send your child to school every day so that they do not have gaps in their learning.

Phonics Ongoing Scheme – RWI
Children are split into groups across KS1 according to their needs Spellings will be given out weekly on a Wednesday to be tested the following Tuesday, They will be first given out on September 20th Every half term assessed again and groups changed.

Reading – individual and Guided reading
Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Parent readers will start week beginning Monday 25th September. This will be from 8:45am to 9:15am on Wednesday mornings. Please sign up with your class teacher if you would like to offer your time.

Maths Fluency Children will take part in daily sessions (up to 15 minutes a day), rehearsing and practising core facts from their curriculum Regular rehearsal allows children to access the maths curriculum more confidently and easily. Over each half term the areas and question types stay constant but increase in complexity, gradually allowing the children to become more secure and confident.

Enrichment activities for the year
All visits organised by the school are important for your child's learning and development. They may not necessarily be a trip outside of the school, but could be a ‘day of enrichment’ provided within the school. End of Key Stage 1 assessments
At the end of each Key stage all children are assessed. These assessments will take place Week beginning 14th May and will be spread over 2 weeks. It is important that all children are in school during this time. The children will be assessed in Maths, Reading, Writing, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.

Supporting your child at home
Daily reading practice. Weekly spellings based on phonics group Games and mathematical questioning can be completed throughout the week. Children will be given weekly homework after Christmas

We are a healthy school. Children are allowed to bring in their own fruit or vegetable snack. The school does provide fruit for children in key stage one. Children should not bring in chocolate or sweets in their lunchboxes. Bengeo school is nut free so please remember not to give them to your children and no Peanut butter sandwiches!

Wet Weather Please ensure children bring in coats every day as they will be expected to go out at playtimes, whatever the weather! If possible children should have plimsolls in school to wear in the classroom if the weather is wet and the ground muddy.

Parent Helpers Children will be sewing and decorating hand puppets later this half term. Please keep your eye out for a sign up sheet to come in and help, as we will definitely need it! There will also be a decoration morning in December and opportunities to help out with our Fire of London Day in the Spring term.
