Rain Ran Fir Fire Pond Pony Vowel Digraph Closed Syllable: a consonant after the vowel makes the vowel short R- Controlled: a vowel followed by an r signals r controlled syllable Final Silent e: the e at the end of the word signals that the first vowel sound is long Closed Syllable two Open Syllables: in a two syllable word, the y functions like a long e sound

Read each sentence and identify the word with a suffix Underline the base word and circle the suffix Decide if the suffix makes the word into a noun or an adjective Copy the suffix into the correct column

Read each sentence Decide if the underlined noun is used as a direct object or a predicate nominative Put an “X” in the correct column The direct object answers the question what did they (he/she/it) do it to? The predicate nominative comes after the linking verb and renames the subject
