6 TEQIP-III : IMPLEMENTATION OF AICTE MANDATE 14th March 2017
Perspective Plan & NEETI Mandatory Induction Training to newly admitted students to reinforce fundamental concepts and language skills Curriculum Revision: AICTE Model Curriculum; Constitute subject wise Industry Consultation Committee (ICC) for examining existing curriculum and making changes every year (December each year) Mandatory internship (4 to 8) weeks in industry for each UG students Industry Readiness: To impart technical and soft skills required for industry; (managerial, entrepreneurial , leadership, communication, team work etc) Promoting Innovation/Start-up: Formation of club, participation in Hackathon Refresher Course for Teachers: Through SWAYAM portal; participation of 50% faculty is mandatory Exam Reforms: Final examination shall test understanding of the concept and skills rather than subject knowledge

7 Induction Programme: Importance
Newly admitted students: New environment Insecurity about future Unsure of own aspirations (low goals) Lack of relationships with teachers Use to taking short-cuts (dishonesty – Cheating) Group conflicts Disbeliefs about technical education Expectations: Knowledge of his/her area of study Concept and skills in math and physics Ability to express oneself Language skills

8 Induction Programme: Solution
University Role: Revise academic calendar of the year so as to accommodate 2 weeks induction program for first year students Consideration of the activity in affiliation process Identify mentor faculties in every affiliated institutes (1:20) Training of faculty mentors from affiliated institutes by experts identified by IIT BHU Induction programme for first year students by faculty mentors Universal Human Values Local Visits Physical activities (through physical instructor, senior students, expert coaches) Art and craft training (through art instructor, senior students) Motivational Guest lectures (by eminent sociologists, NGO etc.) Institutions Role: Faculty mentors to Identify deficiencies in their students about conceptual knowledge in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry subjects & Communication Skills through survey or skill test Proficiency module as per the requirements of student (own faculty with honorarium/ hired experts)

9 Before start of second semester

Employability: Critical thinking Creativity Communication Collaboration/teamwork Entrepreneurship: Tracer study Business Model Risk taking

11 Innovation & Start-Up: Solution
University Role: University “Start-up unit”: Chairman Hon’ Vice-chancellor ‘Need of Hour’ based Curriculum motivating students to generate innovative ideas Sponsoring Competitions: Idea stage, prototype stage, business plan, etc. every month Incentivisation through prizes, academic credits, appreciation, attendance relaxation etc. E-summits, conferences, seminars and other Entrepreneurship fests (organising) Institutions Role: Appoint faculty coordinator/advisor Establishing Start-up cell/club with participation of students Expert Lectures promoting innovation Identify location for Innovation Facilitate awareness drive/ workshops about the idea of ‘Innovation’ & ‘Start-up’ Identification of different problems in local/national areas to be worked upon (Identification of Innovation/start-up ideas) Motivation of students through local entrepreneurs Setting up of Tinkering Labs in institutes.

12 Activities Dec. Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May. Appoint faculty coordinator/advisor Establishing Start-up cell/club with students Identify location for Innovation and Start-up cell (Including equipment like computer, Wi-Fi, table, printer,) Awareness drive/ workshops about the idea of ‘Innovation’ & ‘Start-up’  √ Identification of Innovative/ Disruptive problems in local/national areas to be worked upon ‘Need of Hour’ based Curriculum Setting up of Tinkering Labs in institutes √  Continuous Drive of Competitions: Smart India Hackathon, Idea stage, prototype stage, business plan, etc every month Expert Lectures (TA/DA and other logistics) Motivation through local entrepreneurs E-summits, conferences, seminars and other Entrepreneurship fests (organising as well as attending)

13 Revision of Curriculum:
University Role: The mandate consists of 2 components i.e. consideration of AICTE model curriculum for immediate implementation and appropriate revision through industry consultation committee. Introduce choice based credit system (CBCS) Organizing workshops for faculty so as to implement AICTE model curriculum. Deliberations on feasibility of implementing model curriculum and incorporating appropriate changes on the basis local needs. Considering interlinking of GoI initiatives with curriculum (Digital India, Make in India, Start-up etc) Identify industry experts for formation of subject wise Industry Consultation Committee (ICC) . Communication & follow up with identified members for their acceptance. Suggested functions: Revision of curriculum Vetting of PEO, PO, CO Activities for industry institute interaction Guidance/assistance on internships and placement Examining AICTE model curriculum for its suitability of industry demand in ICC (December every year)

14 Activities Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr. May Introduce choice based credit system (CBCS) Organizing workshops for faculty so as to implement AICTE model curriculum  √ Deliberations on feasibility of implementing model curriculum and incorporating appropriate changes on the basis local needs. √  Identification of industry experts for formation of subject wise Industry Consultation Committee (ICC) . Communication with identified members for their acceptance Formation of ICC. Functions: Revision of curriculum Vetting of PEO, PO, CO Activities for industry institute interaction Guidance/assistance on internships and placement Examining the existing curriculum for its suitability of industry demand

15 SWAYAM: (MOOCS & Digital Learning) & SWAYAM PRABHA
A group of 32 DTH channels - telecasting educational programmes on 24X7 using GSAT-15 satellite. Daily new content for at least (4) hours - repeated 5 times, allowing to choose the time of convenience. Contents by NPTEL, IITs. Curriculum-based course contents at UG/PG level Certification-ready courses, offering MOOCs courses. SWAYAM Bridge digital divide for students who hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution. An indigenous IT platform hosting 695 courses, NPTEL courses to be accessed by anyone, anywhere. Courses are interactive, prepared by the best teachers in the country, free of cost. SWAYAM courses in 4 quadrants – Video lecture, Specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed Self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes An online discussion forum for clearing the doubts

16 SWAYAM & SWAYAM PRABHA: Solution
University Role Introducing flexibility of opting for credit transfer (As per UGC guidelines, 20% credit courses can be done through SWAYAM portal) If credit transfer not possible, at least 1 course done by students through SWAYAM (Non-credit) Development of online courses for uploading it on SWAYAM Establishment of studio for developing TEL courses based on university curriculum. Ensuring during affiliation visit Institution Role Student & faculty registration on SWAYAM portal ( Registration of faculties on SWAYAM for course certification.. Registration of at least 50% faculty every year is mandatory. (2000Courses) Appearing for examination & certification. Instructing institutes to set infrastructure for SWAYAM Prabha and establish in Library (TV set with setup box)

17 Mandatory Internship: (Industry Institute Interaction)
University Role Revise curriculum to accommodate compulsory internship in all engineering degree programs in the form of credit course. Prepare academic calendar so as to complete examinations in engineering degree programs before the end of April every year Prepare discipline specific list of industries/ companies/ organisations (small scale, MSME, large scale, Internshala etc.) and make it available to all affiliated institutes Prepare MIS for student information of all affiliated institutes Communication with the industries/ organisations/ companies with institute details and student profiles. MoU/ Agreement signing with the industries Awareness workshops for students to inform them regarding the different career paths. Arrange industry conclave Institution Role Institutes to update their website with all the details of students (contact info, CV, performance ) To support university in the above activities
