A First Literacy Professional Development Workshop Presented by Georgiana Chevry, Don Sands and Michael Feher

Prior experience helpful, not necessary Can work one-on-one or in groups

5 Using Program Alumni as Staff Members
Selection process begins with student observation Ask to tutor fellow students or help with a task First ask to volunteer with program Next offer a very part-time position Increase hours/responsibilities as they become available Discussion with key points about pros and cons of each type and that structure of council will likely develop base on program size. Keep in mind sustainability with developing a student advisory council.

Require continuous enrollment in college and progress towards a degree Provide continuous opportunities for Professional Development Pay fair amount for part-time hours Include alumni staff in program decision-making
