2 Helping the Needy

4 “Live Simply that Others may Simply Live”

5 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6: NIV

6 “Jesus answered, ‘If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me” Matthew 19:21 NIV “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.” Luke 12: NIV

7 How Much is Enough ? When do you say, “Enough is enough! I don’t need this much stuff”? Our closets and garages are full of “stuff” we don’t even use!!! – Matthew 6:19-21 We often buy things just because we can! - Romans 12:2

8 How Much is Enough ? Sell your possessions and give to the poor – Matthew 19:21 If you can’t sell them, donate the things you don’t use to charity When you go shopping, ask yourself, “do I really need this?” Set a jar somewhere visible with a label, “For those in Need” – Luke 12:33

9 Are you Too Busy to Help those in Need ?
Is your excuse, “I don’t have enough time to get involved.” We all have the exact same amount of time in a day – 24 hours How do you use YOUR time? – Matthew 25:31-46

10 Are you Too Busy to Help those in Need ?
Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness – Matthew 6:33 Prioritize your time so that you can do God’s will – Luke 9:57-62 God’s will is that we help the poor and needy! – Luke 10:25-37

11 The Joy of Simple Living and Giving
Selfishness is a miserable way to live! When we’re constantly focused on our own wants and needs, we’re never satisfied and rarely ever happy! – James 4:1-3 Selfishness robs us of the “simple joys in life”

12 The Joy of Simple Living and Giving
It is more blessed to give than to receive – Acts 20:35; Luke 6:38 When we focus on serving those in need, we feel good about ourselves and how we are affecting the lives of those we help Our own problems shrink in comparison! – Philippians 2:3-4 We’re able to be content and enjoy life more!

13 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it or me.” Matthew 25: NIV
