Problem Solving ? Jose helped his uncle plant a baby apple tree in his
yard. Jose read the tag on the tree and joked, “This tree is just a baby and it’s already two feet tall!” Jose’s uncle pointed at an oak tree in the back of the yard and said, “That tree used to be the same size when I first planted it years ago. Now it’s six times the height of this little apple tree.” Jose was wondering what the height of the oak tree was, so his uncle drew him the diagram to the right. How can the diagram that Jose’s uncle drew help Jose figure out the height of the oak tree? 2ft Apple tree Oak tree ?

Wrap it up… Dara made 12 fruit baskets for gifts. She put 2 peaches and 3 pears in each basket. Then she added apples, plums, and bananas. Dara put four times as many apples as peaches in each basket. She put twice as many plums as pears in each basket. She put the same number of bananas in each basket. Each basket has 23 pieces of fruit all together. Part A What is the total number of pieces of fruit in all the fruit baskets Dara made? Show your work. Part B How many bananas did Dara put in each fruit basket? Show your work or explain how you got your answer. Part C If Dara replaces 3 bananas from each basket with 2 grapefruit, what will be the total number of pieces of fruit in all of the baskets? Show your work or explain how you got your answer. Part D Dara removes 3 bananas from each basket to fill sacks for the food bank. It takes 8 bananas to fill one sack. How many full sacks of bananas can Dara give to the food bank? How many bananas will be left over? Show your work or explain how you got your answer.
