DO NOT USE “I” Do not just narrate or write a laundry list No personal opinions DO NOT ASK RHETORICAL QUESTIONS DO NOT WRITE IN THE PRESENT TENSE Don’t use exact dates unless your know them Don’t use first names unless you know them DO NOT USE SAT WORDS THAT ARE FORCED Do not over generalize

3 Ways to Synthesize Extend or modify the argument Add an additional category beyond the prompt- political, economic, social, cultural, geography, race/ ethnic/gender Connect the topic to other historical period, geographic areas, context or circumstances (in America!!)
