It gives you an opportunity to expand on material in the resume or include other experiences and qualifications.

Your name, address, and phone number.
The date.
Name, title, and address, of the person receiving it.
The purpose of the letter – to go with your resume, to ask for an interview, to inquire about a position.

A brief statement of your interest in the school, job, or program for which you are applying.
Highlights from your resume along with other pertinent information.
Mention of follow-up steps you plan to take. (ex: calling to arrange for an interview or inquire further.)
