Break into a small group of 3 – 5 people Discuss: What physical development happens in the first year? Create a list of the different ways infants grow and develop physically during the first year of life. (10 minutes)

Eat more solid food with the breastmiilk The start holding their bottle They grow in height They start teething They can hold their heads up Climb Leg strength firm, walking The parents The food they eat/ the nutrition

Individual writing activity
On your own paper: Babies grow and develop in many ways. Caregivers have many responsibilities to make sure a baby’s needs are met from feeding to changing diapers. These are just 2 of the physical needs infants have. Infants also have emotional and intellectual and social needs that must be met. Write a paragraph in which you describe what you think makes a happy, healthy baby. ( 5 – 7 Minutes)

Good Paragraph tips 1. Make sure the paragraph focuses on one main idea. 2. Use transition words to link ideas such as: then, however, because. Make sure all the sentences in each paragraph support the main idea.

Small Group Sharing Read your paragraph aloud to your group and discuss the ideas brought up. Do you agree? Do you disagree? What is more important in your mind to do to promote the development of a happy, healthy baby??? (10 – 15) minutes

Vocabulary assignment
Define all 18 terms in sections 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 in your textbook. CHOOSE ONE: You may use quizlet to create your definitions and print out your list or flashcards You can make your own paper flashcards You can write terms and definitions on your own paper
